‘North Greenwich’ refers to Greenwich Peninsula in the Royal Borough of Greenwich. This is largely due to the location of the North Greenwich tube station, at the northern end of the Greenwich Peninsula. Located on the Jubilee Line it provides access to Central London in 20 minutes. It also has a bus station, providing a short ride to Greenwich town centre, and the North Greenwich Pier, just east of the tube station, offers commuter boat services to other parts of London.
Such excellent transport links have been essential to the growth and development of North Greenwich. Today it is perhaps most well-known for its landmarks, which include The O2: an indoor arena, music club, cinema, exhibition space, bars and restaurants. Features such as these attract thousands to the area, but it is also now being substantially redeveloped with new offices, homes, schools and parks, making it even more attractive.
The redevelopment is expected to take around 20 years, but has already seen the introduction of several multi-storey office buildings and become home to organisation such as Transport for London. It is also drawing more people to the area via the development of new shops and restaurants.
Not to be forgotten are the amazing views from the Greenwich Peninsula. It is bounded on three sides by a loop of the Thames. This loop can be viewed from areas of the Peninsula, with the magnificent O2 at its centre.
