Kensington as a whole is an affluent and densely populated area, with Kensington High Street at its commercial heart. This is one of western London’s most popular shopping streets and Gloucester Road is close by. Gloucester Road itself is also very popular with tourists, providing a number of services including a full spectrum of hotels (at both the high and low end of the price range).
There are some small, independent shops and businesses at the northern end of the road, including cafes and restaurants, luxury grocers and hardware shops. The central section from Cromwell Road to Harrington Gardens is also home to a variety of organisations, from individualists to big names, which are located in and outside the Gloucester Arcade.
The central section also features Gloucester Road Station on the Piccadilly and Circle Lines between South Kensington and Earl’s Court, and the District Line between South Kensington and High Street Kensington. This means Central London is just 15-20 minutes away by tube or bus; bus route 49 runs up Gloucester Road from the station to the Hyde Park end.
At the southern end of Gloucester Road is a residential area with some high end properties. This part of the road is tree-lined and provides a very pleasant walk!
